Pelagos fleet at harbor

Navigating the Depths with Intention

Our mission is to create charter experiences that honor the ocean's profound character while providing vessels worthy of these remarkable waters.

Our Story

Pelagos was established in 2018 by individuals who had spent years working in Thailand's marine tourism industry and had observed a particular gap. While many charter operations focused on maximizing passenger numbers or offering standardized routes, few were creating experiences for those drawn to the ocean's quieter, more contemplative aspects.

The name Pelagos derives from the Greek term for the open sea, the realm beyond coastal shallows where light begins its descent into darkness. This concept guides our approach: we seek locations and moments that reveal the ocean's depth and mystery rather than only its surface beauty.

Our fleet began with a single 52-foot motor yacht designed for evening cruises. The vessel's success with guests who appreciated twilight hours and nocturnal waters led us to expand. We added a 64-foot yacht optimized for deep-water access, then our 80-foot vessel capable of multi-day voyages to distant islands where pelagic species are sometimes encountered.

Each yacht in our fleet receives meticulous maintenance. We believe vessels used in marine environments deserve continuous attention to mechanical systems, safety equipment, and interior appointments. Our maintenance schedule exceeds regulatory requirements because we understand that reliability contributes directly to guest experience.

The waters surrounding Phuket offer remarkable diversity, from limestone karst islands to deep channels where underwater topography drops dramatically. We've invested years in learning these areas, identifying locations where visibility is consistently high, where currents create nutrient upwellings that attract marine life, and where the transition from day to night creates particularly striking atmospheric conditions.

Our approach emphasizes quality over volume. We maintain a small fleet that allows us to personally oversee each charter, select crew members carefully, and customize experiences based on guests' specific interests. This model requires more operational attention but produces results we find worth the investment.

Our Standards

Comprehensive protocols ensuring safety, quality, and environmental responsibility

Safety Protocols

All vessels exceed Thai maritime safety requirements. Emergency equipment undergoes monthly inspection, crew maintains current certifications in marine first aid and emergency procedures, and weather monitoring systems provide real-time conditions.

Vessel Maintenance

Engines, navigation systems, and safety equipment follow manufacturer-specified service intervals. Hull inspections occur quarterly. Interior refurbishment maintains contemporary standards. Each yacht undergoes annual drydock servicing.

Environmental Commitment

We adhere to marine park regulations, maintain proper waste management systems, use reef-safe products, and educate guests about protecting marine ecosystems. Anchoring follows established guidelines to prevent reef damage.

Professional Licensing

All captains hold Thai Maritime Department certifications appropriate to vessel size. Dive supervisors maintain PADI or SSI professional credentials. The company maintains current insurance covering passenger liability and vessel operations.

Culinary Standards

Chefs trained in international cuisine prepare meals using ingredients sourced from reputable suppliers. Food storage and preparation follow health department guidelines. Dietary accommodations are carefully documented and respected.

Guest Communication

Pre-charter briefings cover itinerary options, safety procedures, and what to expect. During charters, crew members remain attentive while respecting guests' desire for contemplation. Post-charter feedback is reviewed for continuous improvement.

Our Philosophy

We recognize that charter guests arrive with varied interests. Some seek underwater photography opportunities. Others value quiet observation of marine environments. Families want safe spaces where children can develop ocean appreciation. Couples often desire romantic settings. Our approach accommodates these different motivations without imposing a single narrative.

The ocean's character changes throughout the day and across seasons. Morning light creates different visibility conditions than afternoon sun. Tidal movements affect current strength and marine life behavior. Seasonal migrations bring specific species to particular areas. We consider these variables when planning routes and timing departures.

Thailand's marine environment deserves respectful interaction. We brief guests on proper snorkeling techniques that avoid reef contact, explain why certain areas require restricted access during breeding seasons, and demonstrate how underwater noise affects marine life. This education enhances appreciation rather than restricting enjoyment.

Quality service in a marine setting requires understanding when to engage and when to allow solitude. Our crew members read situations carefully. If guests are absorbed in watching sunset colors develop, we ensure beverages are available without interrupting their experience. When questions arise about what they're observing, crew members provide informed responses.

We acknowledge that maritime conditions involve inherent unpredictability. Weather systems can shift. Marine life follows patterns we observe but don't control. Equipment occasionally requires attention despite maintenance. When these situations occur, transparent communication and flexible problem-solving serve guests better than predetermined scripts.
